Alternate Rules For Chess Games

There are many different ways to play a thrilling game of Chess. While a traditional game on a normal board can provide you with a great thrill and a chance to exercise your brain, there are alternative approaches to a lively game of Chess. Many different people have invented various approaches to the game of Chess, some of which rely on different boards, some on different pieces. All of these games are provided, however, to give a different perspective on Chess, allowing you to think more outside of the box, approaching the problems from a new angle.

One such famous example would come in the form of Glinksi's Hexagonal Chess. This board, which was first used in 1936, is a bit larger than a traditional board, having 11 ranks and files. The spaces are three colors, with a light, a dark, and a gray theme. The pieces move a little differently than in a traditional game, although they do keep to the same basic theme. This version of the game forces you to think a little more creatively in the adoption of strategy and tactics, as it is easier to miss the possibility of seeing an oncoming attack.

Some forms of Chess alter the beginning sequences of the game. Played on a traditional board, they switch the game up by changing the format. Chess960 will randomize the placement of the major pieces, destroying the initial setup of the board. The finished ranks will mirror each other, however, so that all Knights will be opposite Knights, as will Kings and Queens and such. Transcendental Chess works on the same premise, except that each side will be randomly placed and will not mirror each other. Upside Down Chess will swap the placement of the Black and the White Pawns, making each player's Pawn be only one space away from being promoted.

Other alternate Chess games remove pieces from the board. Dunsany's Chess has one side be completely normal while the other side works with only 32 Pawns. In the Pawns Game, White does not have a Queen, but 8 additional Pawns instead. Peasant's Revolt vastly changes the board, with White having one King and 8 Pawns, representing the peasants. Black will have its King, one Pawn, and either 3 or 4 Knights, depending on the version being played.

Some version of the game will allow you to work with the board in additional ways. Cylinder Chess plays the game as if the edges of the board were connected, allowing you to move one piece off of the edge of the board and onto the correlating space on the other side. Grid Chess takes the board and lays a grid of lines upon it. For any move to be counted, the piece must move along the grid in some way. Another popular alternate version of the game is Alice Chess, which is played on two separate boards. Based on Alice in Wonderland, whenever you make a move, the piece goes to the correlating spot on the other board. It will move back again to the first board when you move that spot again. The same rules as standard Chess apply, but offer a new complexity in the orchestration of tactics. This, among other games, offer a whole new possibility in the world of brilliant Chess games.

Actor Lillo Brancato, Jr. is shown in this Feb. 2005, file photo in New York. Brancato is charged with second-degree murder in the 2005 shooting death of Officer Daniel Enchautegui. A mistrial was avoided in his trial after it was discovered a juror had been taking notes during testimony and doing research on the case at home. Brancato agreed to a substitution with an alternate juror Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, after the original juror was dismissed. His consent was required because the jury had already started deliberating. (AP Photo/David Greene, file)AP - Lillo Brancato, who played a bumbling aspiring mobster on "The Sopranos," was cleared Monday of second-degree murder in the shooting death of an off-duty policeman during a drunken, late-night search for drugs. The jury convicted Brancato of a lesser charge of attempted burglary. He faces from three to 15 years in prison; the former actor could get credit for time served because he has been behind bars nearly three years.

Atlantica Crafting Guide

There is a lot of things to think about when you start crafting items. You must think about the long term of your crafting ability. Things like, will I craft certain weapons? will I craft rings? What is most profitable crafting item to sell? And there are many more things to ask. I will try to simplify it for you though. Have you thought about your final formation? That may determine your your crafting desires. You can craft as many and whatever you want but focusing on 1-3 abilities is recommended. Before you start crafting these are the questions you need to think about when starting a crafting career. Obviously whatever lineup you have chosen will have in most cases multiple weapon types and most definitely armor types. At higher levels your gears are craft only so getting a high crafting level in what types of gears you need is a good idea!

Most Profitable Crafting Types!

Some of the more profitable types of crafting are RINGS and CRYSTALS especially early in the game. I have made millions selling rings and crystals for 20k and 100K+ respectfully. And it only really takes maybe 15-30 minutes to create a batch of 15 and either sold or enchanted for higher level and equip on your mercs or hero. If you are going to be a ring crafter its a great idea to be a crystal enchanter. You cannot enchant rings without certain crystals. And as far as I know crystals are very rare and I wonder if they even drop at all. So as you can see people have no choice but to buy at the market which equals you a ton of money!

Above picture is a skill trainer, once you get to the point where you can upgrade your skill will turn orange. You then can come to this trainer and upgrade your skills to the next level or several levels depending on how many points you have accumulated. The more levels you upgrade the higher level items that you can start crafting. Skill trainers only allow you to upgrade to level 10 where you will then have 2 other options to continue upgrading your craft level.

Learn from other players (recommended)

You can find crafters of higher levels on the community craft list or by shouts in game that are constantly being sent by others. You have the ability to teach skills to others also by shouting in the world chat also. High level crafters will get bonus points for teaching your crafting levels and you will also get points for teaching others also. This is a win win situation for everyone. When you find someone that you want to teach crafting or you want to learn crafting from you must be lower level than them. If this is the case then you can add them to friends list and they/you can click actions in the whisper window of your newly added friend and click actions--> share info. Then you can locate what you want to teach or the other person will find what you need to learn and then share the information with you.

Wandering Crafting NPC's (Last Resort)

There are wandering NPC's that you can learn skill levels from. You will have to pay money for each upgrade from them which becomes very inconvenient if you have a lot of levels that you need to upgrade to. Another inconvenience is that its very difficult to locate these NCP's much less the one that you need to find for your particular craft upgrade. If you are the highest level in the game for a certain area you are limited to upgrading your craft this way. But more often than not you will not be and you can upgrade free and easy from someones else's work. Once you hit level 10 go out there and start teaching crafting to gain points... use world chat as much as you can also, it only costs 1k gold so its cheap!

10 Ways to Discover New Music

It's often hard to discover new music. I listen to music all the time; at home, at work, in the car, sometimes even to help me sleep. But without the ability to find new music, I would soon get bored of the same old play lists. I've tried different methods over the years to expand my musical tastes, so hopefully some of these can be useful to somebody else.

1) BBC iPlayer Radio

Now I'm not a great fan of everything played on mainstream radio stations, including the BBC ones, but I do really enjoy using the BBC iPlayer radio. Annoyingly the BBC seems to have the habit of putting all it's niche shows on a stupids hours of the day, when nobody is listening, but with the iPlayer you can simple pick any of these shows from the last 7 days, and re-listen to it on your PC.

2) Music store latest releases

I find my local music stores pretty uninspiring at times, but it doesn't stop me walking in to check out the new releases, and staff recommendations stand. They may only have a handful of CDs in them at a time, but every few weeks I will walk in, scoop up a copy of each CD, and stroll over to a listening post to review my selection.

3) Last.fm

There are many social music sites about, but I seem to have made the most use of Last.fm. A simple plug-in to iTunes allows it to monitor all the music I listen to on my PC and iPod, and uploads the data to the Last.fm website. It's very interesting to be able to see some statistics on your listening habits, but it's most useful feature is the ability to view the listening habits of people that are deemed statistically similar to you. You can browse through your musical neighbors, looking out for bands that they listen to but you are not familiar with, and then even listen to sample tracks of them using the built in music player.

4) Pandora.com

Pandora is an automated music recommendation service, which allows you to input a band or track you enjoy, and it will build you a radio station of similar music for you to listen to. I used Pandora for about a year until sadly the service was restricted to only be available in the USA, although many similar services have popped up since, such as One Llama.

5) Go to gigs

Going to see a band you love live is fantastic, but often it's easy to underestimate the support bands. Support bands tend to be up and coming, or local bands you wouldn't normally run into, so are a great source of new sounds.

6) Pick up a music magazine

I confess I don't often buy music magazines, as I find the articles a waste of time. It might sound cheap, but often in shops I will pick up a copy of Kerrang, or the NME, and flip through to the new releases section, have a quick read and then return it to the shelf. I make a mental note of the bands, and then look them up later on the Internet, when I get home.

7) iTunes

I often use the iTunes store to search for and listen to samples of bands I'm investigating, such as ones I found on Last.fm. You may only have the ability to listen to short samples, but the iTunes catalog is vast, which means you've got a good chance of finding what your looking for. Once in a blue moon I even purchase using the store, as I'm to damn impatient, and can't wait for a CD to be delivered.

8) Magnatune

I discovered Magnatune at work, where I use an Ubuntu based Linux box for my daily tasks. The latest version of Rhythmbox that comes with the operating system, has been integrated with the Magnatune service. Magnatune allows you to listen to all the music you want for free, and even purchase songs using a "Pay what you deem fair" system. The music isn't very mainstream, but selecting a bunch of tracks and playing them on random keeps me entertained.

9) Put you MP3 Player on random

I have a large MP3 collection, which played end to end would span many weeks. It's very easy to find you have music you hardly ever, or never listen to. Putting your player on random, can often help your rediscover some hidden gems.

10) Ask your friends

Don't under estimate your friends or co-workers, even if they do seem to have lame taste in music. It's good to take interest in what other people are listening to, as it helps you diversify your listening habits, and explore something you wouldn't usually listen to.
