Mythic Warhammer Online Review

The preview weekend is over so I thought I would share my thoughts on the new game. Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning will be going live on September 18th and there is quite a buzz going for this game.

I think the game is going to be a serious contender in the MMORPG market. I think it is going to hurt WoW the most because of the similar play styles and graphics, plus WoW has the biggest fan base to hit. The other smaller and older ones like Everquest 2, LOTRO, Vanguard, etc will also be hit hard.

From my play experience, I would describe Warhammer Online as Dark Age of Camelot 2. They are both produced by Mythic and have the same RvR flavor. The evolution of the game is what sets it apart. Mythic has watched and learned and taken the MMO experience in the right direction. They are trying to give subscribers that RvR flavor of DAoC but blend it in to the game so we can RvR as much or as little as we want.

I believe you could level up from 1 to 40 (the current level cap) solely by killing other players and completing RvR quests. Each tier has scenarios that are basically population-controlled instances with a timer and objective. Get in, kill the bad guys and get the points. You can't help but collect renown points when you are in a scenario. There are also contested areas in each tier for open RvR as well as keep taking and defending. These areas are level restricted so level 40s can't come in and help (or they get turned in to a chicken). These areas have quests and objectives that make the area interesting and make leveling there an option.

Overall, I think Warhammer Online is the next best thing - the next generation of MMOs. Mythic has looked and learned and put what they saw to good use. See ya in game!

France's President Nicolas Sarkozy (L) and Finance Minister Christine Lagarde attend a meeting with local entrepreneurs in Annecy, south-eastern France, October 23, 2008. Sarkozy said on Thursday all new industrial investments would be exempt from corporate tax until January 2010. The measure is part of a package to stimulate the economy and combat the effects of the global financial crisis. REUTERS/Philippe Wojazer (FRANCE)AP - People are skittish about the economy's immediate future. Ask how things will be in a year and you hear a different story - and a remarkable show of optimism despite economists' widespread expectations that a serious recession is brewing.
