Games on the Internet : Fragging

Video games played on the Internet require an Internet connection and are revered to as online games. People generally use devices such as video consoles (Playstation, X-Box) and mobile phones, but as a rule online games mean Pc games you play when connected to the Internet. As technology developed, these games today feature high-end graphics, virtual communities, and lots more. It was already popular in the 1980s when Internet connectivity was slow and expensive.

Different type of online games

Online games can be of the following type.

1. First person shooters: Here the players compete against each other in battle. In most cases there are components in first shooters game that allow death match arena style play. In these games the view you see in the gameplay is the one seen from the characters eyes.

2. Real time strategy games: Here you have to design a gameplan, build resources and a strong army to fight other Internet players.

3. Browser games: They are very quick and easy to play, designed as a pastime so you can play on your browser. They are developed using Shockwave or Java technologies.

4. Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games (MMORPG): These online games are produced for the masses. In other words thousands of players all over the world can play simultaneously against each other in a virtual world and also interacting with each other. The aim is to reach the maximum level written for the game. These games can keep a player engaged for months or even years!

How online games make money:

Today there is no game that could not be played online. Single player games is designed to be played at home against a virtual enemy at home, but most games features an online multiplayer gameplay model. This enables players to play against online opponents. Selling CD/DVDS could then make sales [examples: Warcraft 3, Counter Strike]. The browser game companies make revenue generated from advertising and promotions. Many companies improve on their games by adding content and developing new patches in their games and they charge a monthly fee from players [example: Guild Wars]

What is fragging? It means finishing of or defeating a player or an artificially intelligent army.
